Hildegard Von Bingen

Real Name:
Hildegard von Bingen
Profile:
Famous German abbess, mystic, composer, theologian & healer during the medieval era.

* 16. September 1098
† 17. September 1179

Victim of terrible divine visions during her childhood, she was consecrated by her parents to the Lord. Hildegard Von Bingen is frequently represented receiving divine flames, as the picture on the Discogs profil shows. At the age of 8 she was introduced to Benedictine abbey of Disibodenberg by Jutta of Sponheim. After Jutta's death in 1136, she was chosen as abbess. She extended her abbey to Rupertsberg & Eibingen on the border of the Rhine & did many missions through Europe. She died in 1179.

During the Romanesque century she had a very important aura on her period, she was admired by Bernard Of Clairvaux and the pope Eugene III, also by the German Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. She has consigned her visions in her book Scivias (English: Know the Ways).

Hildegarde von Bingen & her musical compositions were rediscovered during the 20th century by, among others, Sequentia (2), Anonymous 4, Ensemble Organum, Sol Invictus or Current 93.
