Daughter of Ruth Pointer, Issa was born in 1978 into a family already rich with musical talent. Issa displayed a love of music from a young age, making her first public appearance at the age of seven, when mother Ruth and her aunts Anita and June were touring to support the album "Contact."
Issa's on-stage cameo at such an early age was a foreshadowing of things to come: Issa made her official recorded debut performing a rap (in French, to boot!) on the song "Billy Said Yes" from Ruth, Anita & June's "Right Rhythm" album in 1990. She also sang backing vocals on "It Ain't A Man's World" from the Pointers' 1993 album "Only Sisters Can Do That."
The Pointer Sisters' stopped recording for a while and Issa didn't make an appearance again with her 'older sisters' until 2002, at which time founding sister June Pointer decided to leave the group to pursue other interests. Mother Ruth and aunt Anita asked her to join them on tour as a 'full-fledged' Pointer Sister, which she enthusiastically accepted.
As of January 2005, Issa has been a member of the group now for four years and although they have been keeping up a frenetic tour schedule, they have recorded one song together, "Hearty Party" (of which a house mix has purportedly already been bootlegged,) as part of a tour-de-force compilation of high profile English-speaking recording acts including
Suzanne Vega,
Lisa Loeb,
Richard Marx, and the late
Laura Branigan covering material by superstar (in her native country) Japanese recording artist/songwriter Mariya Takeuchi.
Plans are in the works for the Sisters (including both Issa and June) for a new studio album to be released in late 2005, but at this point its still 'in the works.' Regardless, Issa has all the talent of her elder 'sisters' and undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of her.
