American jazz tenor saxophone player.
Joe Thomas was originally an altoist playing with Horace Henderson but switched to tenor when he joined Stuff Smith's group.
Joe Thomas is better known as a star with Jimmy Lunceford from 1933 until the leader's death in 1947, for his many short but often-memorable solos and vocals.
In the beginning of the 50's, Joe Thomas on his own recorded a variety of R&B-oriented sides.
