Jon H. Appleton (Jan. 4, 1939, Los Angeles, California, USA) is a composer, an author and a professor. He studied at Reed College, at University of California (with Andrew W. Imbriethe), University of Oregon (with Homer Keller and Robert Trotter) & Columbia University (with William J. Mitchell, Mario Davidovsky & Vladimir Ussachevsky).
He taught at Dartmouth College since 1967, where he has been the Arthur Virgin Professor of Music since 1992, chair of the music department and director of the electroacoustic music graduate program. He also taught as a Visiting Professor at Brooklyn College in 1988, in Theremin Center for Electro-Acoustic Music at the Moscow Conservatory of Music in 1993 and at Keio University in Tokyo in 1995-96 and 1998. He wrote books and articles on the relationship between music and technology.
