Jonathan Davis

Real Name:
Jonathan Scott Davis
Profile:
Jonathan Houseman Davis was born January 18, 1971 and is the vocalist for Korn. He was born and raised in Bakersfield, California, where he lived with his father and step-mother.

Davis has displayed a wide variety of vocal styles over the years. His scat, or incredibly fast and gibberish-style singing, is very prominent in Korn. It is known as korn-jabber. He screams, whispers, grunts, wails, he even weeps during songs. As well as being Korn's lead singer, he has also played drums and bagpipes. Davis writes songs on guitar and other various instruments, such as glass harmonica and bagpipes.

Davis was the last member to join the band. James 'Munky' Shaffer and Brian 'Head' Welch discovered him in a bar, initially intending to only stay for a few minutes. Upon seeing Davis performing with his then-band Sexart, however, they were compelled to stay for the whole set, and as soon as the set was over approached Davis with an offer to join the band. In early years, he was known for wearing a variety of normal and customized Adidas tracksuits onstage, which became a kind of "trademark" for all Korn fans.

As a child, Davis was sexually abused by a close friend of his family. The song Daddy is about this abuse and the fact that his parents didn't believe it was happening.
Davis is the older half brother of former Adema and Midnight Panic vocalist, Mark Chavez. Davis has married twice, marrying his high school sweetheart, Renee Perez, in 1998. Together they had a son, Nathan Houseman Davis, but were divorced in 2001. On October 5, 2004 he married again in Hawaii, this time to former adult film actress Devon Davis. In 2005 their second child, Pirate Houseman Davis, was born. Davis's third son, Zeppelin Houseman Davis, was born on April 28, 2007.

Davis suffered from asthma as a child. In 2006 Davis was unable to perform due to the fact he had to be hospitalized. It was later established to be idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura, with doctors ordering Davis not to perform for several weeks. Davis has been sober from drugs and alcohol since August 22, 1998.

Davis has had a fairly small acting career. He has a cameo in The Queen of the Damned as a ticket scalper. Davis plays as Ricky in the film Seeing Other People but his appearance is small, and as a store clerk in the indie film The Still Life. Davis's most known acting role is in the horror film Sin-Jin Smyth where he plays the Devil.

In 2007 he went on his first solo-tour followed by the cd/dvd "Alone I Play". He plays numbers he helped producing, which he couldn't play with Korn.

Review by usnibrutski Jan 30, 2008
I've seen the latest Korn show in the Netherlands just yesterday. Only Jonathan and Fieldy attended, as Munky had to go home for his sick father. Still the show rocked! On this show I bought the CD and DVD album of the solo tour of Jonathan. This is something quite different from what you're used from him. All acoustic performances and another repetoire as done with Korn. He plays the more sensitive Korn-music with tracks from his production "Queen Of The Damned" and some tracks never heard before. This is when I realised that Jonathan Davis is Korn, no matter what band acoompanies him. The biggest comment on Jonathan and Korn and their latest album is that the music is becoming softer and simple. Jonathan's reaction was "if our album was commercially succesfull I would consider that a personal failure"! That is what I like about Jonathan, he makes music like HE wants to and not what others want him to make. Go on JD! Looking forward to new (solo) material!
