Jorun was not the first person to create and perform hip-hop in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but as a young teen he was a potent and pioneering force. After mastering the classic essentials of hip-hop DJing, he learned to use sampling and programming hardware from experimental/outsider musician Steven Slater and started producing and recording other rappers in the very early 90s. There was a time when nearly every rhyme committed to 4-track tape was laced over one of his beats, in his bedroom.
Hip-hop has changed a lot since the early 90s and in some ways, Jo hasn't. He still samples, he still digs, he still values originality and he still won't suffer a wack MC to live... not without getting his palms greased a little, at least.
In the new millennium, he's become a cornerstone member of the First Words crew out of New Brunswick. His profile is much lower now, as hip-hop moves in different directions, but his abilities are as sharp as ever.
