Lady Blacktronika, The

A born and raised Californian from San Jose she discovered house music in 1988 and later rave and techno in the early 90s. She is a survivor of the mean streets of San Jose, San Francisco and Los Angeles where she learned first hand how hard life can be. The harsh and dangerous reality of street life is reflected in her tough and gritty sound.

In 1997 she hooked up with a friend Mattski who gave her first taste of music production doing vocals on underground house tracks with him. Frustrated with "the boys not letting [her] play with their toys" she began trying her hand at house music and techno production in 2006, producing Beatdown tracks inspired by such Detroit greats as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and Norma Jean Bell. In early '07 Mike Huckabee discovered her and gave her her first introduction to a world audiance on a Detroit radio broadcast. She released her first single shortly there after on Deep Explorer in September of '07.

Lady Blacktronika has a very pro-Black stance on this mucic she loves,for which she coined the term "blacktronica." She has attempted to make the world aware that House Music and Techno were started by African-Americans.

Dedicated to the dirty sounds of Detroit Beatdown and Old School Chicago House, most recently she's been delving into Disco re-edits which was a natural transition because of her love of disco.She is hoping to make a mark as one of the great women (but not just a woman) producers with integrity to what house and techno shit is really about, the feeling and soul!!!
