Lamya

Real Name:
Lamya Hafidh Sultan Al-Mugheiry
Profile:
Lamya was a female R&B, electronic and dance music singer, born in Oman and raised in London and Egypt. Classically trained as an Opera singer, she possessed a five octave vocal range. A remix of her song "Empires" hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 2002.
After watching an interview with Madonna, Lamya moved to New York City to pursue a musical career. Singing lead vocals on "Ready 4 Love" - a cover version of Raze's "Break 4 Love"- and some other releases on Champion Records (pre 1991) led to her singing lead vocals for Soul II Soul. From there, she joined Duran Duran on tour in 1993 and also performed with David Bowie and James Brown.
In 2002, Lamya released her first solo album, "Learning From Falling". She produced and composed the songs, using poems she had written since age 11.

She died on 8th January 2009 in Oman, her home country.
