Leona Philippo was born in Toronto, Canada in 1979. She started her career at the age of 3, when she started to play the piano. At the age of 6, Leona established herself with her adoptive family in Oestgeest, the Netherlands. Here she enrolled at the Conservatory of Music in Rotterdam at the age of 17. She cut her education short after her 3rd year. She performed in 1999 as support act for Dru Hill with the Dutch R&B group Sat-R-Day in Ahoy (Rotterdam).
In February 2000 her debut-album was released.
She succeeded in being asked to accompany Arling & Cameron and Junkie XL on their Tokyo Tour in 2000.
