Originally comprising multi-instrumentalist Steven Greenberg and singer Cynthia Johnson, the latter left in 1983 and was replaced by Margaret Cox (better known as Ta Mara of Ta Mara And The Seen.) Melanie Rosales also briefly was a member. Lipps, Inc. is a play on the words "Lip Sync"
