Mc Whirlwind D got into hip hop around 1983 and in the mid 80s was a breaker with the Radioactive Posse. By the late 80s, he was working with Lap One Productions and then the fledgling Kold Sweat label. Though rough tracks were produced, it wasn't until 1990 that he would hit vinyl alongside Johnny F as part of Solid n Mind, signed to the Liberty Grooves label. The band recorded two twelve inch singles in the early 90s, the latter being finally released in 2009. After this, Whirlwind continued to rhyme, playing many venues on the South Coast in the 90s, before turning to the pen and becoming a writer for a number of magazines including Undercover, Ethics and Record Collector. In addition, he has contributed to various books such as the Rare Record Price Guide and Freddy Fresh Rap Records. In 2004, he released a track through Undercover Magazine under the name Rhyme Traveller. Since then, Whirlwind has been part of the group 'The Original Jeffrey Kaye'.
