Singer and songwriter, born 3 November 1930 in Bastrop, Louisiana.

A recording artist for Motown in the late 1950s/early 1960s, she joined Ray Charles' backing singers The Raelets in 1962. From 1966 to 1968 John recorded as a solo artist again for the Stax label. She then rejoined the Raelets but soon left again to focus on Christian music.

Sister of Little Willie John and Mertis John.
