Beginning his career in 1999 with a split EP with Michael Forshaw on the latter’s much loved Chan ’n’ Mike’s label, Hawkins was soon noticed by Saskia Slegers (AKA Miss Djax) for whom he recorded 6 eps on her well known Djax Up Beats imprint.
He has also released on, amongst others, Pro-jex, Mosquito and Hoerspielmusik. Mark has also performed regularly over the past 8 years, both Live and as a DJ in The UK, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Malta, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Australia.
His live-act is hardware only, going against the flow of laptop / ableton sets that have become the standard for so many artists, allowing him to have his own unique, but fat sound.
In 2003 Mark began his own label, Crime, which proved to be a credit to his already impressive history, and featured original and remix work from Si Begg, Bill Youngman, DJ Urban, Michael Forshaw and Rotorik alongside Marks own productions.
2004 brought a move to Berlin which brought fresh influence and experience. Rubbing shoulders with many talented musicians whilst there raised the bar with both ideas and production skills which he applied to both his productions and live performances.
In 2006 Mark moved to Gdynia, Poland, and in isolation there began work on his debut album “The Doomsday Clock”, which featured long distance collaborations with The Horrorist, Bill Youngman, AL.X.E and Polish tech-hop band Kirk. Unfortunately the completion of the album coincided with the crash in the vinyl market, and left Mark unable to sell the release, labels considering it to be too left field and unorthodox to be a sure fire hit. Undeterred, he decided to give the album away for free through his website allowing his audience to at least hear the music he had put so much work into.
The setbacks of “The Doomsday Clock” led to a hiatus, during which time Mark decided what his next move would be. Still touring, he had noticed a lot of so-called “minimal” releases were sounding more and more like the mid nineties techno that had switched him on in the first place, and whilst DJing, was often mixing up the likes of Audion and James T Cotton, Hand on the plow artist Spandex, with early Cristian Vogel and Chicago trax from years before.
This lead to the starting point of Mark’s new project “###”. Having already released one track on a split e.p. with Digital Princezz on the German Feinwerk label, he recorded 3 tracks which were picked up by Feinwerk boss Christian Schachta, who thought they would be perfect for his up and coming “Snork” imprint. Snork had already been gaining popularity with Richie Hawtin and Magda, which lead to ### being remixed by up and coming M_nus artist Hobo AKA Joel Boychuk. ### EP01 will be released on 20.02.09 featuring 2 original tracks and 1 remix by Hobo. ### EP01r will be released 1 week later, featuring a second remix by Hobo, a remix by Spandex (Hand On The Plow/Sleep Debt)and another original track from ###.
