Matthew Dear

Real Name:
Matthew Dear
Profile:
Matthew Dear's most recent excursions have found him at the doorsteps of the minimal-but-funky regime of techno music. Inspired by pioneers like, Mike Inc., Thomas Brinkmann, and Ricardo Villalobos, Dear has ingested, manipulated and re-introduced his version of this always changing and innovative realm of sound creation. Recent acceptance into the legendary Plus 8 roster and ever-popular Berlin based, Perlon label has solidified Dear as a viable source for pushing the boundaries of modern dance music while at the same time remaining focused on the simple goal of making people dance.

Reviews & Discussion

Staccato percussion and fat ass bass lines!! What's not to love? Most of Matthew's stuff is not what I would say on the deep, thought provoking side of minimal electronic music (unless you're thinking how loud you can possibly play his stuff without causing permanent structural damage). It’s just good fun micro-house and Cologne technopop that will have your grandma on the floor shaking her booty.

EP1, EP2, and his Jabberjaw release on Perlon are absolute must haves, also check out his False alias for more traditional minimal sounds but with his own signature funk. In the end, you can't go wrong with any of his releases.

If you get a chance to see him live... GO!! It's amazing what one guy and a laptop can do, he will bring the house down... guaranteed.

Matthew Dear not only knows what people want to hear on the floor, but also how they want to feel. I can't say that I have heard anything he has released that is not magnificent, be it minimal, glitchy, funky, or just dark and nasty.

The two releses as False on Plus8, warsaw bread and .wav pool are absolutely amazing. utterly gut wrenching basslines and stripped down glitchy riffs... exactly the sort of thing you'd expect Hawtins label to put out at the minute.
