M. Mercer

Matthew Mercer was born in 1977 and grew up in Ohio, USA. After recieving a BS/MFA degree from Kent State University in Visual Communication Design, he relocated to Chicago where he now works in a small Design studio, in addition to producing music independently.
Classically trained on the organ and piano from an early age, he has been producing music for years, starting in a more Ambient/Experimental vein and moving more and more into a purely electronic sound. This transition was complete when he started using a powerbook to create tracks, most recently using it with an "anything goes" approach to sampling. Bits and pieces of anything and everything flit in and out of the mix, recontextualized, reorganized, reenergized.
This music is the result of absorbing as much music as possible, an appreciation for what has happened and what hasn't yet, and a personal creative vision.
