From 1994 until 1999 Melanie Thornton was the lead singer of the group La Bouche. On March 18, 2001 Melanie Thornton released her latest single "Heartbeat". Melanie Thornton released her first solo album entitled "Ready To Fly" on April 30, 2001. On September 3, 2001 the single "Makin' Ooh Ohh (Talking About Love)" was released. Melanie Thornton died in a plane crash on November 24, 2001. This was just 2 days before her new single and album was going to be released. On November 24 she performed in Leipzig and then she drove to Berlin where she took the plane to Zürich.
To commemorate her death, Kayo Shekoni took the place of Natascha Wright with Lane McCray to release "In Your Life" in 2003 featuring vocals of Melanie Thornton in Europe and the USA. It did well in the US, peaking at #6 in the dance billboard charts
