Originally hailing from the East Coast, Mieka Du Franx began to explore underground dance music in the early 90s in New York City, where she found herself plugged into Manhattan’s hottest clubs, at the age of just 15. Mieka's passion for rhythmic beats began as a young girl growing up listening to her father and brother's professional drumming. As she matured under the influence of beats, she naturally gravitated towards underground dance music.
Her formal training began at Northeastern University where she majored in the Music Industry. Her studies in Boston provided a solid foundation concentrated on music theory, recording, and music business. After two years at the university, Mieka's ambitions for hands-on training became her focus, so she made the decision to do a program that would develop her interest in recording and production. Shortly after, Mieka relocated to New York where she attended The New School to study MIDI. Her solid foundation in music recording, production, and business also led her to become the Public Relations Coordinator for the infamous Satellite Records. In 2001 Mieka moved to Hollywood, California to attend The Musicians Institute, where she enrolled in the Recording Artist Program for recording, studio production, and digital media, earning a certificate in Recording Arts. Upon completion of school, Mieka worked as a house & techno buyer for a local record store in Los Angeles. From LA, she paved her way North to Vancouver, where she held residencies at the legendary Deepen nights, as well as the city's only after hours hot spot, Gorgomish.
Aside from DJing, Mieka spends her time in the studio working on solo projects, as well as collaborating with various producers and developing her knack for writing "hooks". Her first remix was pressed on Amfibius Records in 2007. SInce then, her skills in production have taken a whole new direction. After attending Laguara College for Ableton Live, Mieka's tracks have nu developments. Her approach is much more hands-on and instinctive. Felinephonix Music label is Mieka's best opportunity to release her sounds and an outlet for other artists to get their music heard. The label is steadily gaining appeal to disc jockies around the world as it continues to benefit from online distribution. FPX has had licenses to OM, Nervous Records, and NRK Music, all within only ten releases. Mieka's goal is to work from the inside out, stay true to the core, while making moves around the corners, bury the politics, and bump the globe.
