Those who didnt get the chance to know Mike Grants music will suppose that a production career that started about 1997 belong to someone of a newer generation. As Black Noise, though, Grant released "Nature Of The Beast" on Atkins Metroplex label - a sign of a career based on a substantial musical background.
Mike Grant has seen most of the dance music acts take place these last twenty years - and more than that, he lived the early Detroit scene from the beginning of the eighties, a privilege of only few artists.
During all these years, the owner of Moods & Grooves learned the ways of the deep to the soulful, atmospheric side of dance music. His entourage of producers such as the Techno pioneer Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter (from which he became a close friend) and Eddie Flashin Fowlkes was at the origin of his personal artistic development that occured later.
And who said that Detroit didnt have House music? After guys like Ron Trent and Chez Damier (whose careers would rely to Chicago as well), Mike ventured on a dimension full of synth pads, warm chords and broken beats, out of common so-called ‘four by four’ cliche pattern.
His profound, sophisticated approach can be noticed from the deep ambient “Transition Pt 1” (part of the “Abstract Fusion 2” compilation) to the atmospheric break beats full of melodies “My Soul, My Spirit”, whose vocal sample was taken from Slam, directed by Marc Levin.
Owner of a cheerful and sincere personality, Mike Granted us artistic testimonials that are a proof that the backgrounds of the Motor City have a undeniable connection with the important musical legacy of Jazz, Soul & Funk. A background that was by the way translated some years later into the underground dance music paradigms, influencing a whole international scene.
