The unfortunate truth about Detroit is that many of the greatest musical talents who live and work in Detroit have never received the fame and accolades that DJs and musicians from larger tourist oriented cities have. Mike Huckaby is arguably the most prolific DJ/producer whose name remains unknown to most of the world.

With a style that is firmly rooted in deep house, his knowledge of techno and garage classics is unparalleled. His live DJing ability relies heavily on his ability to produce intense build-ups that never seem to plateau or weaken through the night. I was lucky enough to catch some shows where he was paired with Michael Geiger, another of Detroits great unknowns. The dous presentation would rival any of the greatest Masters at Work and Jazzanova shows combined.

If you truly love good music and get a chance to visit Detroit, do yourself a favor and go to Record Time in Roseville and find out where Mike Huckaby is playing next.
