Real Name:David Wright
Profile:Not Breathing is the creative vehicle of one Dave Wright, maker of experimental electronic music and instruments. Beginning in the late 80s with an impressive and prolific series of self-distributed cassettes, Not Breathing’s career now encompasses six full-length CD releases, several vinyl releases, over forty compilation appearances, one 8-track release, six US tours and totalling over 300 live performances. Worked for six years with Chicago’s industrial label Invisible Records, spawning three CD albums as well as a collaboration with Dead Voices On Air. As an electronics engineer, Wright is able to create instruments that deliver an absolutely unique spectrum of sound. Wright also has an extensive body of work as a collaborator, remixer and session musician.

Dave Wright is in a class all his own. I have followed his prolific career for many years now & his work only gets better with each release, which is something that cant be said of many artists. He is the Southwestern American equivalent of Aphex Twin in terms sheer artistry, only more ingenious in my humble opinion. What sets Not Breathing apart from the legions of other electronic artists is the fact that he makes most of his own gear & doesnt have to rely on the latest computer programs. He has a unique gift of bringing back the old school analogue sounds & transforming them into something entirely new & interesting. Not Breathings releases are absolutely outstanding, but the real magick is in the live improvisational performances.
