Unfortunately, Ochre hasn't yet proved what he's capable of - at least, not consistently. His range of sounds & timbres remains doggedly narrow, extremely so in fact, & this is a major flaw in music by someone who clearly has an energetically imaginative mind. The structures he uses are interesting, at times unusual, & on occasion he has struck out into some most inventive post-ambient waters. But these are sadly rare excursions in an output that, to date, has fallen short of being truly impressive.

When you think there are no interesting British composers left you discover another one. Undeservingly passed unnoticed. Ochre’s sound tells you that it is the artist supposed to record at Warp but nope! It seems alternative labels can rival this giant at IDM field. Despite many similarities to Ae and Plaid, Ochre can boast of own distinguishing style and a absolutely crystal sound. On the one hand Chris is very melodic, sometimes he even falls into classical music; on the other his music has a bit of roughness – this mixture is really astonishing. Take any Ochre release, listen to it, and it will make you forget about any other artists for a long time.
