A founder member of the Ensemble InterContemporain, the pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimar (b. 1957) was a pupil of Yvonne Loriod at the Paris Conservatoire and won the first prize in the Olivier Messiaen International Competition at the age of 15. He has appeared as soloist with leading orchestras in the USA (Chicago, Boston, San Francisco) and Europe (Concertgebouw, London Philharmonic). He has premièred the solo parts of many contemporary works, including Boulez's Répons, Stockhausen's Klavierstück XIV, Ligeti's 11th and 13th Piano Studies and George Benjamin's Antara.
