Procol Harum

Real Name:
Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, Robin Trower, Dave Knights, Barry J. Wilson
Profile:
Gary Brooker (vocals, piano) Robin Trower (guitar) and B.J. Wilson (drums) started in 1963 as "Paramounts", but the story also tells that "Paramounts" original line up was: Brooker, Trower, Chris Copping - bass (replaced by Diz Derrik ) & Mick Brownlee - drums (replaced by Wilson January 63).
Early 1967 they start to write their own work under the name Procol Harum. In July 1967 they got their first #1 hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale", and this was the first real "classical rock" song. A lot of albums and singles have been released afterwards, but never they got that success of their first single.

The "line up" for their first single was:

Gary Brooker: vocals and piano
Matthew Fisher: Hammond organ
David Knights: bass
Ray Royer: guitar.
Drums by session drummer Bill Eyden.

Procol Harum re-formed in October 1991.

And recorded "The Prodigal Stranger" with this line-up:
