Protoculture

Introduced to music at the tender age of seven, South African Nate Raubenheimer started playing with jazz and classical piano, and in school he began experimenting with a range of electronic music styles. After finishing school Nate spent two years studying sound engineering where he got the opportunity to work on small film soundtracks. Originally producing break beats he was soon introduced to trance music through the guys at NANO Records and the Cape Town party scene.

"Superhighway Samurai" was his first international Trance release and was licensed from NANO Records and included on the Spiral Trax compilation Mechanism. He then went on to produce three tracks for the NANO Records compilation Emergence, which was extremely well received and put Protoculture on the map.

Thereafter, Nate went on to produce "New Directions" which saw a shift in style to what was to become his signature sound. Debut album Refractions followed, the success of which made worldwide gigs happening.
