Rok

Real Name:
Jürgen Rokitta
Profile:
DJ Rok, german techno-DJ since 1989, started buying vinyl when he was still a kid. He just turned 15 when he started working the decks in the local discotheque of the bavarian town he grew up in - and almost ruined his career in school with this. In the middle of the 80ies he moved into the beginning revolution of House - music of a still divided Berlin. He got booked for clubs and the early House-Parties of Berlin and soon the UFO-crew stumbled over him which resulted in regular gigs at the UFO-parties which became one of the earliest influences of the german dance-movement. The next station was Tresor, the still existing club that became a milestone in Techno-history.
Since then he performed at all sorts of raves, parties and events - at mini-locations like the legendary Elektro in Berlin which held up to 30 people and at huge raves like Mayday with thousands of people. And everywhere in between.
His roots as a DJ are also reaching into the old shelters, wrecked factories or power plants of the beginning 90ies that were most influentual for creating that cult called "Techno". Rok had his first music production in 1996. Producing his own tracks lured him into extensive sound-research in his own studio which resulted in various releases on well known labels like International Deejay Gigolo Records, Müller Records and Tresor.
Lots of successful underground club tracks came out of this and a selectionof those produced between 1996 and 2000 can be found on his album "Defender".
Of course people asked for remixes - six remixes he did in 2001 in additionto his own stuff.
2002 is the year that sets a new milestone in Roks career: the start of his own label Defender Records.
