Ron Block is an in-demand banjo and acoustic guitar session player, having recorded with the likes of
Dolly Parton,
Fernando Ortega,
Vince Gill and
Brad Paisley. He is also a member of Union Station, the supporting band for Country/Bluegrass legend
Alison Krauss. He is considered their spiritual touchstone, and has written a body of songs centred around ideas of Christian faith and devotion that the band have recorded and performed over the years.
In 1996 Ron produced the Forbes Family album
In The Shadow of Your Wings, and released his first solo album in 2001 entitled
Faraway Land that was a musically diverse collection of gospel-flavoured songs.
Ron received his first guitar at the age of 11, having grown up in his parent's music store surrounded by the smell of old guitars and the sound of musicians. At 13 he became intrigued with the banjo after seeing Lester Flatt performing in TV, and received his first banjo the following Christmas.
