Straight outta Philadelphia, Schoolly D was one of the earliest exponents of gangster rap along with the likes of Ice-T, Toddy Tee and Kool G Rap.

In his long career he has produced several classic albums and has worked with artists as diverse as Mekon, Joe Delia and Abel Ferrara (director of Driller Killer) for whom he has contributed music for several films.
