Scooter are a German Dance band from Hamburg, who have sold over 14 million records and have earned 80 gold and platinum awards, they are also considered the most successful single-record German act with 20 top ten hits on their résumé. The band is currently made up of members H.P. Baxxter, Rick J. Jordan and newest member Michael Simon. Although most of the band's early recordings are happy hardcore or hard trance, they also experiment with other dance genres like hardstyle and jumpstyle, and occasionally hip hop and house.

Their trademark sound features spoken or shouted vocals, pitch-shifted chorus vocals and live performance elements such as crowd samples. Among their more well-known hits are "Hyper Hyper", "Move Your Ass!", "Fire", "How Much Is the Fish?", "Posse (I Need You on the Floor)", "Ramp! (The Logical Song)", "Nessaja", "Weekend!", "Maria (I Like It Loud)", "One (Always Hardcore)", "Hello! (Good to Be Back)" and "The Question Is What Is The Question?".

Am I the only one here who still likes Scooter? Their old stuff was good, but also their new stuff is excellent aswell. Maybe it's because people's opinions of Scooter are based on the singles they release. But I believe that their instrumental tracks should get more recognition. You can't just dismiss Scooter as crap when their most recent album "Mind The Gap" contains one of the finest instrumentals so far that goes by the name of "Trance-Atlantic". It has to be one of the most beautiful instrumentals I've ever heard.

I would have to agree that they have released some bad singles. I didn't like "Rebel Yell" all that much. However, it did contain a great B-Side called "Euphoria". Also, Scooter have had some pretty gnarly remixes (old and new).

Well, where do I begin? Not only are they possibly the most unoriginal dance act I have ever known, they even have the cheek to rip well known, respected, hardstyle and hard trance tracks. How this can be allowed I do not know, as essentially they are commercialising an "underground" dance genre. Now I don't know why hardstyle producers have not done anything about this, maybe they don't know, or maybe they know that a relatively uncommercial producer going against a big name (although thoroughly shit) would likely end in them losing. I think what they do is a disgrace to music worldwide and I certainly would never buy anything that gave them royalties. Good day to you!

I am sorry I just don't like them at all. Not music that commercial. I was given a record that is pretty old by Scooter called Shake Your Ass, or somthing like that. It was soooooooo bad filled with stupid pointless lyrics by someone that can't sing, just shouts. In every record that I have heard from them it is just a bloke souting with a thumping beat any a very commercial rhythem. #every song is the same, not much thought behind it.

The fact is that Scooter still exist in 2009 whilst other bands from the era of rave and hardcore have stopped. The music of Scooter was involving throughout the ages but this doesn't mean that is necessarily good. For me, the first three albums with the singles of that period count. Pure happy hardcore, hardcore and rave music. Not that they didn't have other good albums like the "Back to the heavyweight jam", but their sound ended to be very commercial.

I can't believe so many people on here are slating Scooter, but i can see the appeal at the same time... Many people who are into a lot more intelligent styles of electronic music are very negative about Scooter, but if you consider them just as a popular/dance act - they are really on the top of the hill!

They never were innovators, but they have put all the elements together in the right way - and they have taken the ravey vibe to a much higher scale then it was before them. They have been performing for years for very large audiences and their albums have sold enormous amounts. Many many people have started to listen to electronic music just because of Scooter.

It makes me laugh when people start talking shit about them in terms of quality of their productions comparing to other great underground happy hardcore or trance acts or whatever - what a nonsense! There are thousands of great producers and acts around, but Scooter are the only ones that have reached such big success! So it's not about thinking about them in terms of quality of production or sound - for many many people its more like thinking about them as an ICON!

Scooter started in 1994 and here we are still discussing them in 2006. One of the few bands that have survived whilst countless thousands have been and gone. Of course their early Happy Hardcore was good, but why should they still sound like that? Scooter have moved with the times and their sound has gone through several complete changes. Some changes were less successful than others, but by evolving they have not just stayed alive but kept ahead. Some acts such as 666 are still around too but have changed their lineup so much that they are unrecognisable. With Scooter we still have HP at the front.
In recent years they have developed the Stadium Techno style and (almost) made it their own. You have to admit that it is very different from, say, Faithless. In fact, there's nothing else close. Well-produced, interesting and somewhat daring videos like Weekend and Nessaja have set new standards for music videos. I love them. Most of their cover songs have been good - a new take on the original and usually much more entertaining. Sadly their current hit (in Germany at least) "Apache Rocks The Bottom" is not so smart. It just doesn't work. You can get away with bagpipes in techno (just) and even opera in trance (eg. Highland - Bella Stella), but the twanging guitars are pushing it too far. Shame really - it could damage Scooter's standing and of course is great fodder for those who don't like Scooter and love to knock them.
What about the lyrics? Fun, uplifting and really entertaining. "Yeah, I've got some lyrics, I've got some lyrics for you!" must be one of my favourites... there are lots more and it's entertaining spotting shouts and lyrics borrowed from one single and used again in another - like "Waiting for Maria". By the way, 666 do this a lot too.
So, an enduring and entertaining act with a unique uplifting sound and great videos too. Hard to beat!

I started on Happycore early 1994/95 scooter... ended up listening Nihil Fist's 1000 BPM Speedcore/Power Noise, Ant-Zen stuff, Darkcore, Industrial Hardcore and all sort of Extreme Underground Electronics. But I'll never forget Scooter. sure, from 2000 on, all music is complete crap. but in 1994-97 period you have some of the best tracks in electronic music history... no kidding: Rhapsody in E is still in my top 10, and I bet it will never be beaten. Truly genious. And The Beat Goes on is LEGENDARY! Almost all tracks are good, even the HP shouting ones! Waiting for Spring, Raving in Mexico, Different Reality and still tracks that rule! They sure as hell beat any of new technotrance releases... good, very good stuff. the 2nd and 3rd album also have nice stuff (Coldwater Canyon, First Time, Awaykening (this is 1 of a kind), Stuttgart and many more). Don't judge Scooter so fast until yoiu hear their good stuff... they really DID nice stuff! and many people producing and hearing good electronic music stuff nowadays got into it by Scooter. weird, but simply true (as you read from the comments above).

but... let's face it: Scooter from the 3rd album on are complete bad tasteless music. One can only hope they return to the Happycore Old Days... the talent is there. Where is the will to do so?

It really, really, REALLY cracks me up to see people take a band like Scooter so seriously. I mean come on, that's like taking Tenacious D seriously.

Sure, they've done tons of "ripping off", but that's a large part of electronic dance music in general. Jungle is well known for abusing the breakdown from Amen My Brother, for example. Even though they ripped off Shut Up And Dance, the song Raving I'm Raving was a complete ripoff of Walking In Memphis.

Is it commercial? Of course! No one's arguing that, but for that reason alone I have no quarrel with them existing. It's just 3 guys being goofy, and there's nothing inherently EVIL about that.

Scooter is the hugest mountain of crap of all time. They never wanted to be artists and i assume most fans have never been involved much into music. Scooter were always polarizing, they have been took off and they could laugh about themselves. Their appearance in talk shows was entertaining, lots of jokes with the obligatory mask of irony. They´re good entertainers, i acknowledge that. Their CDs have not been sold without a reason. Despite what I said I consider them as evil. The cheesy way they use elements i love (303, pitched vocals, piano, hardcore beats) makes me cry. Defiling the holy 303, violating those beloved, uplifting piano melodies... Hearing scooter music is like seeing members of my family getting raped. I will truly hate Scooter forever, seriously.

Scooter is what got me into Electronic music, it's the first electronic music i heard in Canada and it was catchy. But what made me dislike them over time was the fact that the instrumental tracks they made were so good (rhapsody in E, cold water canyon) and made everything else sound like total crap. In retrospective Scooter are a terrible group when it comes to orginality and they are VERY cheesy. But back in the day they had a sound that wasn't that bad, and for the average music fan was pretty fun. Sometimes I'll just play endless summer just for the hell of it, I laugh a bit but I can't help tapping my foot. If you want anything half listenable by them get the early stuff everything post 2000 is garbage.
