What do Captain & Tenille, Prince, oldschool hip hop, & Tennessee all have in common? Well, not much I really.. But someone in TN was listening very carefully & Self as a result has a surprisingly clever & unique take on Rock. Always offering something eccentric & new but with enough song writing craft & gusto to keep it all together. Self can deftly hop around a myriad of different styles & structures with impressive & often humorous results. Yet, Self still manages to maintain a distinct stylistic identity between all the subtle homages, parodies, spoofs, & "did you hear that?"s. The limits really seem quite limitless for lack of a better term. And Self will probably be remembered by scholastics years down the road as one of the greats.
