The basic tone of life remains the same and in it there are some happy melodies and some sad melodies
- Sekito Kisen
Andew Eigus was born in Riga in 1973. Selffish materialised in 2002. The name Selffish denotes a paradigm shift in Andrew's life. The name is an absurdist exercise of fusing the unrelated and irrelevant words 'selfish', 'shellfish' and 'shelffish' into a callsign. The music Selffish produced was slower and more refined than Eigus's earlier works. The major contribution to his production comes from the samples he obtains from field recordings across the baltic landscapes, laced with human voice, his playing the retro grand piano and other acoustic instruments, and certainly from the people around him. Passion and nature, love and expression, two shades, circular conversations, unanswered questions, piano minimalism, autoscopic hallucinations, spiritual senses, structuralism and absurdism, audio poetry, bitter-sweet jazz, irony of it all are several keywords to his music.
