Solimoto! are back with their subterranean bass line blues.
Walk in the Warm Rain opens with a melancholic string arrangement based on ‘The World is a Ghetto’ chord changes blending into a minimalist deep house groove. The rhythm builds with a tuff bass line and sparse piano chords as Daniella Wol drops cultural vibes reminiscing over her previous village life in Sudan. From the deep and dubby sounds of WITWR check
Make Them Clap - a cut guaranteed to move the crowd. Blending Cutty Ranks, Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti and Rakim over a rolling b-line and funky organ riff, it hits a bumping house groove reminiscent of Bobby Konder’s early nineties Nugroove sound.
Walk in the Warm Rain/Make Them Clap is the follow up to the limited edition release Africa Moves Me. This funky leftfield house track was compared to Kerri Chandler and Masters at Work and picked up support from a worldwide selection of DJs including Norman Jay MBE, Luke Solomon (Classic), Ivan Smagghe (Black Strobe/Paris), Doc Martin (San Francisco) and Groove Armada. It subsequently received airplay on BBC London and Radio Nova in Paris and was licensed to the Organic Audio Hi-Life compilation on Fuerte.
Solimoto! was put together by Leroy Quintyn. Leroy started his career in the music business in New York as a tape op with The System. He went on to engineer for Lil’ Louis Vega (Masters at Work), Mantronix and Teddy Riley. He moved to London when he was appointed resident engineer at Gee Street studios. Since the closure of Gee Street he has been producing Soul, R’n’B and Afro-beat artists in Paris and London.
Vocalist Daniella Wol, who drops science in her native tongue of the Dinka tribe of Southern Sudan, came to London to escape the Sudanese civil war. She is cousin of New York based supermodel Alek Wek.
Solimoto will release their first album 'Shadow and Act' this Summer.
