I started getting into music in my early, I used to listen to Electro on Pirate Radio stations, I can remember hearing Nucleus "Jam On IT and thinking F***ing hell what is this I LOVE IT!. Because I have always been so influenced by digitally made music I made the natural progression into House music in 88, listening to tunes by Mr Fingers, Adonis, Juan Atkins, Derrick Carter, Kevin Saunderson, and West Bam. It was in 1989 that I went to my first of many BIG outdoor raves "SUNRISE". For me this was the most amazing time in dance music. I got into DJing in 1989 and teamed up with a friend of mine to start putting on free parties. We put free parties on where ever and when ever we could, this included legendary Parties on Camber Sands beach that went on until 11am the next day. We were playing everything from a bit of Hip House, Detroit House, Acid House and Garage House, it was good in the old days as you could play such a wide range of styles.
As the music started to change and Break Beats started to be used more and more in music we went from House to Happy Hardcore to Jungle. It was around this time that myself and 2 friends realised that there was a serious need for a dance music record shop in Eastbourne. So we opened up a record shop called URBAN WAX supplying all forms of dance music to the local rave community. The natural progression from this was to start putting on the first Raves/Dance music nights that Eastbourne had ever seen. Our most successful event was called BLISS, we had the likes of Smoking Jo, Sister Bliss, Dean Thatcher, John Please Women, who were all pretty unknown at the time but soon became house hold names. I started to get a lot of work off the back of these events and started playing at Sterns and before I knew it I was playing at events such as Dance 92, Storm, Heat Maidstone, Bagley’s, Passion along side the likes of Carl Cox, Grooverider, Fabio, Jumping Jack Frost, Mickey Finn, LTJ Bukem the list goes on. It was around this time that my very good friend Ron AKA Jack Smooth who was in house producer @ Basement Records gave me the opportunity to start producing my own music and released four 4 track EP's called THE HEDGEHOG AFFAIR and one 12" under the name of RUSH TILL DAWN/ One of the tracks from the first EP "Oh Wow What a Rush" and "Oh my GOD I’m a DJ" quickly became Anthems. Wow! the scene is alive again, thriving with happy bouncy smiley people and its a pleasure to go out clubbing. I cant believe the quality of the tunes that are around at present, its almost gone full circle back to 89 he he he... HERE WE GO!!!
