Tekniq are J. Doe and DJ Hostyle otherwise known as John Williams and Jonathan Wright. They met at school but didn't see each other for a couple of years until they met up at a party. The rest is history. They started dabbling with music back in 1989 putting a few breaks and samples together from various big tunes around at the time, using a Casio sampling keyboard and an Amiga computer. From this John was hooked and started building a home studio where most Tekniq tracks are now produced. John and Jonathan have been DJing since 1991 when they fromed Tekniq. Previously Jonathan had been Djing on his own but he hooked up with John and they started playing back to back.
They have had several residencies, including Intense in Norwich and Camolauge. They also used to do a 3 hour weekly D&B show on their local radio station Coastal. Tekniq have plenty of tracks under their belt. Their first release was 'Technophone' on Ozone Records which was followed by 'Belief' which was big in Japan. They joineded Formation and did a couple of tracks for the F-Project 'Vol. 10' and 'Vol. 30'. They have also been involved with several LP's and had tracks on Highly Recommended, Jazz & Bass Volume I, Formations' Limited Edition Collectors Boxed Set, The Unifed Colours Of Drum & Bass and Jazz & Bass Session II.
Their biggest track to date on Formation was 'The Riot', which was released back in '96 and caned by the likes of Randall, Bryan Gee, Rap, SS and Grooverider, and "One Style" released back in '99 which made it to Number 1 on Fabio & Grooveriders' chart on Radio One. Their main inspiration comes from the scene itself. John quotes "There's nothing better than going to a jungle party, hearing new tunes and being amazed at what other producers have come up with. Drum & Bass is always changing, that's what makes it so exciting". Their aims for the future include an album full of different flavours so they can push drum & bass into a new dimension. They would also like to produce a sound track for one of the next generation game consoles as they are both massive console fans.
