Created by Sami Tenetz as a Black/Death solo project, Thy Serpent was soon signed to Finnish Spinefarm after two short demos, 1994's "Frozen Memory" and 1995's "Into Everlasting Fire". Tenetz soon started gathering other members to complete the band's line-up and eventually entered the studio in 1996 to record "Forests of Witchery". During those same recording sessions, songs taken from the original 1994-95-era demos were re-recorded and eventually released as an EP titled "Lords of Twilight".
The band's most successful album yet, "Christcrusher", was released in 1998. Line-up changes occured and eventually an EP titled "Death" was released in 2000. The current formation consists of Azheim (keyboards, bass, vocals), Tomi Ullgren (guitars), Teemu Laitinen (drums) and - of course - Sami Tenetz (guitars). Tenetz is now also the head of Spikefarm Records.
