Nowadays, a synthesizer has a vast number of presets for dialing in a sound... When synths originally came forth, things were not that easy! Enter Tim Stahl, a master at twiddling buttons and sliders on synths that now are museum pieces like dinosaur types by Moog, Sequential Circuits, OSCar, Roland, etc. To this day, the Laid Back Studio looks more like a collection of rare vintage synths than a modern studio facility.

To play those antique electronic instruments, you have to be akin a rodeo rider on a wild (and unpredictable) horse. Some of those early synths have to warm up a certain time before being able to play note pitches correctly - and then, after a short while, a synth would overheat and go out of pitch!

In other words, to play those synths you need to have a special empathy for electronics as well as the patience of a saint. Tim Stahl also proves to have a superior "less is more" approach that perfectly serves the end goal of a song.
