Tritonal

Prior to their appearance on the Anjunabeats label I hadn’t become acquainted with the abilities of this talented American duo. Nevertheless, since being blown away by ‘Lights Over Austin’ I felt compelled to check out what else they had to offer and as such have since become a major fan. The aforementioned track has ‘Anjuna’ written all over it, with its subtle, delicate keys and airy vocal effects sitting on top of a rather satisfyingly meaty bassline and possesses the tight production values to which the label so strictly (and indeed rightfully) adheres, although their sound could arguably sit within both the Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep spheres.

Although it’s difficult to nail down quite what makes their sound so distinctive their presence is almost instantly recognisable when it comes to remix work and their ‘Air Up There’ mixes in particular are a joy to behold; the deep groove and spacious atmospheres of the storming ‘Pepe’s Garden’ remix almost seem to scream ‘Tritonal’, whilst another Jaytech reworking (‘Vela’) demonstrates an ability to stamp their authority all over a track whilst retaining the key elements that made the original so good in the first instance. Furthermore, they have already taken their classy sound into the realms of vocal trance, joining forces with Cristina Soto on the excellent ‘Walk With Me’ where once again their penchant for a floor-destroying bassline comes to the fore.

Versatile and progressive, Tritonal are one of the most exciting young talents within a genre that has rapidly come stagnant, predictable and short of ideas. I look forward to (and indeed expect) great things from them after their showings so far!
