Twilightning

Profile:
Twilighting was formed in 1998 in Imatra by Tommi Sartanen (gtr/voc), Ville Wallenius (gtr), Jussi Kainulainen (b), and Juha Leskinen (dr). From their first demo dating back to February 1999, they’ve come all the way to “Plague-house Puppet Show”—Spinefarm Records bids welcome one and all!

Hot on the heels of their successful Japan dates supporting Helloween, east Finland’s premier power metal act Twilightning entered the Astia Studios to lift that pesky veil of delirium once and for all. The result, “Plague-house Puppet Show”, their second album will certainly please all connoisseurs of the genre, packing a solid punch with its razor-sharp riffs, crystal-clear production and focused songwriting.

In their six years of existence, Twilightning have come a long way, although signs of greatness have been there from the beginning. Already back in 2000, when no names were scribbled on dotted lines yet, a Japanese company Disc Heaven bought all the remaining copies of their demo-CD, “Affection Seeker”. The next year saw the band bring in a new singer by the name of Heikki Pöyhiä, whose classic heavy metal wailing neatly complemented the band’s shift into more 80’s hard rock territory on their third and final demo “Return to Innocence”.

In November 2001, Spinefarm Records deftly won the competition between labels eager to sign the band, who had meanwhile became a hot item in Finnish music media. Next September Twilightning recorded their debut album “Delirium Veil” at Astia studios with Anssi Kippo engineering and producing, while Timo Tolkki of Stratovarius fame mixed it at Finnvox Studios.

The Japanese, being old friends already, soon had the album in their shelves courtesy of Universal Music Japan in August 2003. After proving to be an instant success in Japan, Universal worldwide followed suit and October 2003 saw the international release of the album to much critical acclaim. As for today? It is time to get the Puppet-Show on the road, and Twilightning certainly do not shy away from the challenge!
