Umbra et Imago (lt.: "Shadow and Image") was formed in autumn 1991 and initially (first 2 albums) was a genuine dark electro wave gotik band; soonafter becomes a gothic metal-/Neue Deutsche Härte-band. In picking up Sigmund Freud's idea that sexuality was the center of our being they processed sadomasochistic fantasies though their cynic lyrics. The band is famous for incorporating BDSM acts and complex pyrotechnics into their live shows.

I don't mean to sound rude to those who idolize them for some reason, but Umbra Et Imago are one particular proof shock value isn't necessarily what makes a perfect concept. They so desperately want it to be concept rather than product (or even worse, a by-product) of a specific music genre, it seems the only way out of gothic hell is calling for Buffy.
And if the devil does exist, he should be truly offended by these constant beastly visual presentations of himself... Theatrical mainly to the point of being ridicules, Umbra Et Imago mix sex, electronics and trashy industrial death-or-so-metal sound to bad taste extremes. 'Mozart' to start with - well, the real Mozart was already sweet enough he ended up in tasty chocolates. He would have never hoped for this reflection of 'seine kleine Nachtmusik'; heavy make up and costumes to hide ultimate lack of identity behind. Or maybe Umbra Et Imago believe Wolfgang would roll in his grave for a dozen eternities... Now that's a bore.
