Ved Buens Ende

Ved Buens Ende

Real Name:
Carl-Michael "Czral" Eide, Hugh Stephen "Skoll" James Mingay, Yusef "Vicotnik" Parvez
Profile:
Ved Buens Ende was created in Norway in 1994 with members: Aggressor (drums, vocals), Vicotnik (guitar) and Skoll (bass). Ved Buens Ende means 'At the End of the Rainbow' (referring to the mythological rainbow Bifröst, the path from earth to Asgaard). Same year they debuted with the demo "Those who Caress the Pale", but it didn't gain enough succes. In 1995 they released a full-length debut by the name "Written in Waters" which featured backing vocals done by Lill Katherine Stensrud. The band frequently toured with session vocalist Simen Hestnæs, but at the end of 1995 the band broke up. But in 1997 their demo "Those who Caress the Pale" was re-leased by Misantropy's sublabel, Ancient Lore Creations, as a limited edition CD. In 2000 Czral reanimated the spirit of Ved Buens Ende in his avant rock band Virus (17).

Ved Buens Ende might just be one of the most unique bands that have sprung out of Norwegian Black Metal scene. Defiant to all the National Romantics of the other prominent bands, the lyrics were very poetic in a haunting introspective way, and the music progressive. The musicianship is top-notch. The vocals were mainly plaintive singing vocals, but some of the grim rasping sort too. I would recommend Ved Buens Ende to anyone looking for BM a little out of the ordinary. "Written in Waters" being theire only album, that would be a good place to start.
