Reviews & Discussion

You are so right - Victor Simonelli is definitely a legend. I've had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions and he's also one of the nicest and politest people I've met.

I've been saying this for some time and it's worth mentioning here, Victor's early work with Glenn "Sweety G" Toby, his work with Tommy Musto and Brian Tappert and Marc Pomeroy, and all the work he's done on labels like Bassline, Vinyl Solution, Big Big Trax, Nu-Groove, and SubUrban - Victor played a SIGNIFICANT role in what has become the Soulfuric sound.

I cannot believe that no one up to now has made a comment on this genius in production, who in my opinion was one of the founders of the US/UK Garage scene in the UK. From 1992 to 1994 this man was god in my book, I couldn't wait for his releases of which made up at least 60% of my DJ Box! He was responsible for classics such as Creative Force’s “It's So Good”, Soulution’s “Givin' It All I Got” and “Feel so right” and of course Cloud 9’s “Do You Want Me”.

His collaboarations with Tommy Musto under T.M.V.S were probably the reason UK garage is about today. The dubs, with their dirty bass lines, skippy beats and vocal snippets were speeded up to about plus 6 and became the blueprint for the sounds of the pirate radio stations not to mention the underground Sunday scene.

These days his production work is more on the deep jazzy house side of things, with releases on Liquid Sound Lounge and his own West Side Records label.

A true house legend !
