Something Wolf Eyes discovered seemed to elude the generations of previous noise-makers. Not that they find their references in anything newer than Throbbing Gristle, but Wolf Eyes has hit a vein of keeping it nice n' super-gritty while also bringing in an engaging variety of sounds. And by sounds I don't mean "sound" as it may be applied to whoever's aesthetic, I mean sounds. Like everything from a power drill to a halloween sound effects cd to your neighbor's dishwasher they stole. And perhaps there's an element of reduction, Wolf Eyes knows that their swampy, diverse, and truly interesting sounds can hold for themselves, so they feel no need to overrun the listener or abandon all precepts of structure. Beats pointless screaming over radio static any day.
