Reviews & Discussion

I wont go on with some long segment about the particular religious view of this sound or who is or isn't rightful to follow in the footsteps of what happened in Berlin & Detroit 20 years ago. Why Basic Channel is better than anything before or after it, why the DeepChord & Echospace continuum are the current heirs to their legacy. What I will say is on this one they really hit a home run, I've bought almost every release from this label and this one like Ghram said, "it caught me off guard". As much as I agree with him side A hasn't quite registered with me yet but I am quite mystified by side B, it's really as good as I hoped for. I read a long discussion forum about this release, a near 400 post so my expectations were really high and it actually hit the nail on the head. I would have to say I hear a lot more Rod Modell in side B than I do on side A, a similar creepy and inviting nature (like a visitor in a foreign land) of his "Incense And Blacklight" album on Plop from a few years back. I have to admit I haven't flipped the record over but once to hear side A and because "Beyond The Clouds" is so damn good, it's like a friend you haven't seen or heard from in forever and out of no where you hear their voice. I love it when an artist can pull that off, bring back a nostalgic moment in your life through music, there is really something special about this song I can't quite put into words, just listen and maybe you'll get it.
