(I don't know why, but I won't ever sleep till it's not done... but ) Can someone please use his free submissions limit ( since this new rank system, mine is always at 100% ;) )to correct this one : http://www.discogs.com/release/1005038 I don't know how mods can accept that "Not on label" when you can clearly see on second picture that this is a Tad's ( http://www.discogs.com/label/Tad%27s+Record )release of this album ... Thx in advance! sufferah wrote:
I think I'll do that later, I'd also add some credits (last LP on Tapir's list of Tad's LPs: http://www.xs4all.nl/~tapirs/tadlp.htm)

The album itself is in fact NOT a TAD's Records one. It was produced (financed and overseen) by Ranking Dread & Sugar Minott without a label deal . Hence the cat number SSLP 001.

It was distributed in the US by TAD's Records. To add it directly to TAD's ain't corect. Those produced by or for TAD's look different and have another Catalogue-Number System.. TRD and at least 5 digits agoraphobik wrote:
huuuummm.... You're right this SSLP cat# is not an usual Tad's cat#.

But every website (tapirs, reggae-vibes, roots archives ...) credits this release on Tad's. And, on the label, there are no more labels credited than Tad's. So, I still think that Tad's label is a better choice than "Not on Label". For example, look at this one : http://www.roots-archives.com/display.../5556.jpg# This is the same label artwork, and it's clearly a Tad's release. But you're right, this one is not produced by Tad dawkins like most of the Tad's releases... jussumen wrote:
of course . the Executive Producers : Tad A. Dawkins and Tad A. Dawkins Jr.

credit is missing and it has another cat. number. No doubt this was distributed (and probably even manufactured) by TAD's Records in New York. VInyl and pressing machines; tapes, reels, matrixes etc. all of this is very expensive in Jamaica. It must be imported and Taxes are extremely high on these goods ! I think we should somehow associate it to TAD's, too - maybe under Unofficial Releases ? jussumen edited this message about 1 year ago. agoraphobik wrote:
Yep, You're right, I think too you've find the best way, Tad's and unofficial release ! Do other mods agree ?

no i don't agree - because "unofficial release" always relates to the artists. and it's not an unofficial album (as in "not a bootleg") by for ranking dread. so, listing it as "unofficial release" would be very wrong. i think, one can simply add Tad's as label, and then explain the situation in the notes.

I added a coment at the update saying : i tend to add it to TAD's , by now as well - after all TAD's seems to have a distribution deal with Ranking Dread & Sugar Minott for a US Release on TAD's. There might be different pressings of this LP around in Jamaica and even in the UK. But judging from the Scans this should have TAD's and Country - US "distr. by TAD's Brooklyn, NY." New York is in the US not in the UK. In Case the submitter has a different pressing with MADE IN THE UK on it he should NOT add these Scans.. My 2 Cents agoraphobik wrote:
All right Jussumen, I follow you, Tad's label and Us press. Let's see if mods finaly agree .
