Each side (45mins/475MB) was taking about 6 hours to do, it was a case of start the upload & go out, I went to a warehouse party last night :o) Only thing is, it was for film shoots not raving :o( , the owner had a party there, mad place, crap music though.

As for the recording!
I used Zshare because Meadiafile locked up on me after about 3 hours of uploading, I was not a happy bunny!

I wasn’t sure how to set the gain on the deck & because the recording is a bit up & down & so are the DJ’s levels I kept the gain along zero, heavy bass & the DJ chatting pushes the recording level into the red but not too much, let me know what you think.

The tape must be from around 1991/92, it’s from WeekEnd Rush, I can’t remember the frequency.
The DJ’s are Mix Master Max with the force of one crew, I know Max, we started doing a tune together, I’ve got it on tape somewhere, we never finished it though, I can’t remember why!
On the other link/other side of tape, it has Ragga B & Tony T.

Hope they bring you back some memories.

The DJ was Jim Dee & he mentions Bad boy west is in the house as he is chatting! Those who know Sunrise will know them names from Sunrise FM.
Jim’s mixing wasn’t exactly Frankie Bones standard but when there was no other stations on, having something to listen to was nice.

I have cut out the adverts (this was done at time of recording, sadly!) but in the middle of the tape there are two adverts for raves, the second advert is one I did for Phantom B for a rave he was appearing at, so I did do an advert for somebody else, it was for a rave over Shoreditch.

The style of music on the tape is mellow, considering the station name. There’s lots of chatting & shouts going out by the DJ, there isn’t too many pop’s & crackles & the recording level seems fairly constant, not sure of year, I thought it was around 1990 but Jim mentions the Camber soul weekender coming up, I thought the last was 1989, maybe not!
The DJ even gets into a little argument with someone on the phone, this was a real proper Ruff & ready pirate show & I like it for that!

Hardcore FM became more junglist in style as they went on in time, like many of the others, but they started off playing a lot of euro techno/hardcore & that early mad 786 Approved stuff. So I'm intrigued to listen to their mellower proceedings :)

When I said in an earlier post that I had gone to Sunrise radio with DJ Phantom B I was wrong!
I have found a Hardcore 88.75 FM show that dates from may 1991, I know this because my girlfriend taped the show when me & Phantom B were AT Hardcore FM!!! AKA Sunrise radio, me & Phantom B took a taped demo copy of my first EP along with us (bad recording) & on the show he says that it’ll be released next month & then plays it, I released it on the 6 June 1991. Sunrise radio aka Hardcore FM was the first Pirate station to play my tune :o)

The style of the show is proper hardcore house, as you’d expect on a station called Hardcore :o), me & Phantom B were, shall we say, a bit happy at the time, as I think you will tell!
In the show Phantom B talks about a Raindance rave & the address of the secret location!

The last thing that really made me think what the hell have I done & not remembered is this!
You know I said I hadn’t done adverts for anyone else?
And it turns out I did one for a rave in Shoreditch! Well!
I did a voice over thing for Hardcore FM!!
Yes! Double, what am I like!!!
You can hear it in the show as Phantom makes a poor effort to play it!
It goes “We are taking you underground on Hardcore FM".

Anyhow! Back to converting & uploading :o)

I just liked that Information society thing & sampled it as a test thing, we ended up spending too much time on it & so put it as one of the tracks on the 2nd EP.
I was talking to Shelia at Tam Tam & Savage about releasing the 2nd EP for us commercially, she hated that track because of how much she heard it in America or something!
Things never worked out with Tam Tam, even though we spent two days remixing the SpacePhantom track at some studio far far away with a couple of lads who used to be in Centerforce, might have the tape somewhere!

I have found the only tape I have with a female DJ playing on a pirate station, it’s from Oct 1993 so it just fits into the time scale your looking for.
The DJ is DJ Sky on Pulse 90.6 FM.

The quality of the tape isn’t brilliant, the style, I think! Is mellow’ish Techno (all sounds similar to me :o) ! She does a fair job of mixing & mixes in my happy house tune at the end of the tape, which is how I know the date of the show, because I had sent her a copy just after releasing the 4th ep, early Oct 93. Unfortunately I only have 45mins worth of the show.

I remember DJ Sky, quite eclectic with her style, which was quite refreshing from the chipmunk jungle which was rife at that time.

Speaking of DJ Sky, I came across a small secondhand collection via a couple of defunct recordshops (namely Music Power, Haringey) back in the day with DJ Sky penmarked on a few labels of hardcore & techno tunes, promos & full releases alike. Don't know if it is the Sky or not, but since Music Power had close connections with Pulse, I assume they were once owned by her. Last time I heard her spinning was on Eruption FM back in 04 I think, some seriously good acid house & bleep techno.

I have found a tape, quality up & down, which has on one side, 22odd mins of RawFM & the same with FriendsFM, the DJ on Friends fm is Bad boy J. It might not be a complete show of each but it's a shame to let the tape just gatther dust & not be heard!

I think I have a couple more which haven't been uploaded, but the trouble is getting them converted in the first place. Also have lots more pirate shows 89-92, but some massive, quite obscure hard techno/hardcore techno & acid/industrial ones by DJ Ivan on Unity 88.4 FM from 92/93, which I need iding on some of them. I'll sort it out in a couple of weeks, sorry to be a pain :P
