I’ve now got the tape deck & so have my first tape done! I didn’t realise how long it would take to upload 90mins of tape. Each side (45mins/475MB) was taking about 6 hours to do, it was a case of start the upload & go out, I went to a warehouse party last night :o) Only thing is, it was for film shoots not raving :o( , the owner had a party there, mad place, crap music though. As for the recording! I used Zshare because Meadiafile locked up on me after about 3 hours of uploading, I was not a happy bunny! I wasn’t sure how to set the gain on the deck & because the recording is a bit up & down & so are the DJ’s levels I kept the gain along zero, heavy bass & the DJ chatting pushes the recording level into the red but not too much, let me know what you think. The tape must be from around 1991/92, it’s from WeekEnd Rush, I can’t remember the frequency. The DJ’s are Mix Master Max with the force of one crew, I know Max, we started doing a tune together, I’ve got it on tape somewhere, we never finished it though, I can’t remember why! On the other link/other side of tape, it has Ragga B & Tony T. Hope they bring you back some memories. The next tape I'll do will be chillin FM. 475MB is pretty big for any upload, yet alone a 45min rip, it's in .WAV aswell, bloody hell :) Mediafire or zshare haven't the fastest upload servers unfortunately, but also depends on your connection/ISP etc... Anyway enough of that trying to be technical digression lark by me lol! On with the downloading.. As far as the recording level/quality is concerned my uploads & a few of the others aren't perfect either, the effort is what counts & it's a WAV! Cheers & a belated very merry xmas to you as well as a happy new year :) P.S. I think they took Sunrise's former frequency if I'm not mistaken, 92.5FM perhaps, can't remember. spacework wrote:

TEKNONUTTERP.S. I think they took Sunrise's former frequency if I'm not mistaken, 92.5FM perhaps, can't remember. OK! I’ve uploaded the tape! Sunrise used to broadcast on 88:75FM. This tape I have (only one side) was from early Sunday evening, the station was broadcasting on 88:75FM as Hardcore FM! The DJ was Jim Dee & he mentions Bad boy west is in the house as he is chatting! Those who know Sunrise will know them names from Sunrise FM. Jim’s mixing wasn’t exactly Frankie Bones standard but when there was no other stations on, having something to listen to was nice. I have cut out the adverts (this was done at time of recording, sadly!) but in the middle of the tape there are two adverts for raves, the second advert is one I did for Phantom B for a rave he was appearing at, so I did do an advert for somebody else, it was for a rave over Shoreditch. The style of music on the tape is mellow, considering the station name. There’s lots of chatting & shouts going out by the DJ, there isn’t too many pop’s & crackles & the recording level seems fairly constant, not sure of year, I thought it was around 1990 but Jim mentions the Camber soul weekender coming up, I thought the last was 1989, maybe not! The DJ even gets into a little argument with someone on the phone, this was a real proper Ruff & ready pirate show & I like it for that! Enjoy ;o) 01 Hardcore8875fm01.wav - 475.26MB TEKNONUTTER wrote:

At least there's none of that prefixing the "THE" rubbish at the beginning of everything they used to blab on Kool FM and the likes ie "the 081, the 345, the 656 etc" which has become the norm since then. spacework88:75FM
You're absolutely right! I knew there was a "5" in there somewhere lol! Damn, what was that 92.5 frequency then? Ahh, I think my mind's been mashed over the years :P Cheers for the uploads m8 :) Btw I remember that Weekend Rush show, frantic mixing as always.
The style of music on the tape is mellow, considering the station name Hardcore FM became more junglist in style as they went on in time, like many of the others, but they started off playing a lot of euro techno/hardcore & that early mad 786 Approved stuff. So I'm intrigued to listen to their mellower proceedings :) spacework wrote:

Guess what I’ve found? My memory is so bad :o( Digging out these tapes has been really good for me :o) When I said in an earlier post that I had gone to Sunrise radio with DJ Phantom B I was wrong! I have found a Hardcore 88.75 FM show that dates from may 1991, I know this because my girlfriend taped the show when me & Phantom B were AT Hardcore FM!!! AKA Sunrise radio, me & Phantom B took a taped demo copy of my first EP along with us (bad recording) & on the show he says that it’ll be released next month & then plays it, I released it on the 6 June 1991. Sunrise radio aka Hardcore FM was the first Pirate station to play my tune :o) I’ll convert & upload the show over the next day or two or three ;o). The style of the show is proper hardcore house, as you’d expect on a station called Hardcore :o), me & Phantom B were, shall we say, a bit happy at the time, as I think you will tell! In the show Phantom B talks about a Raindance rave & the address of the secret location! The last thing that really made me think what the hell have I done & not remembered is this! You know I said I hadn’t done adverts for anyone else? And it turns out I did one for a rave in Shoreditch! Well! I did a voice over thing for Hardcore FM!! Yes! Double, what am I like!!! You can hear it in the show as Phantom makes a poor effort to play it! It goes “We are taking you underground on Hardcore FM". Anyhow! Back to converting & uploading :o) spacework edited this message 11 months ago. spacework wrote:

It starts off with Ellis Dee finishing his show, I bet you remember Ellis Dee, top DJ at the time, he released some tunes as well. Phantom B plays my tune (near the end of this side), you can also hear the voice over thing I did, Phantom plays it as he starts his show, he also calls me the secretary at one point because I was taking the calls! The quality of the tape is ok, the style is hardcore, because of the release of my tune I can put the date of this tape at May 1991. My favourite tune on this side is the one that starts at 25mins, cant remember the name of it. Enjoy :o) 01 8875fmPhantom002.wav - 477.98MB spacework edited this message 11 months ago. SeRKeT wrote:

I hope he doesn’t mind, I’ll wait to see what he says & grovel after that ;o) I just liked that Information society thing & sampled it as a test thing, we ended up spending too much time on it & so put it as one of the tracks on the 2nd EP. I was talking to Shelia at Tam Tam & Savage about releasing the 2nd EP for us commercially, she hated that track because of how much she heard it in America or something! Things never worked out with Tam Tam, even though we spent two days remixing the SpacePhantom track at some studio far far away with a couple of lads who used to be in Centerforce, might have the tape somewhere! Your sampling/re-working of above track is excellent imo, I wasn't that big a fan of it back in the day, because I felt that the original shouldn't have been tampered with, but it's truly grown on me over the years. I think I'll burn a couple of CDs & listen to them in the car instead, much easier to get into the music rather than sitting in front of a pc, for me anyhow, always get distracted or fed up. Cheers lads :) I remember DJ Sky, quite eclectic with her style, which was quite refreshing from the chipmunk jungle which was rife at that time. Speaking of DJ Sky, I came across a small secondhand collection via a couple of defunct recordshops (namely Music Power, Haringey) back in the day with DJ Sky penmarked on a few labels of hardcore & techno tunes, promos & full releases alike. Don't know if it is the Sky or not, but since Music Power had close connections with Pulse, I assume they were once owned by her. Last time I heard her spinning was on Eruption FM back in 04 I think, some seriously good acid house & bleep techno. Cheers sgannon, fully appreciate the 89/90 angle of things, on the D/L. You're welcome m8 :) Cheers m8, you're going to make me blush soon, it's usually women that make me do that lol (though that would be a fine thing nowadays :() Besides, I'm sure others thought of opening a thread like this one, just happened to get there first :) @spacework - listened to that hardcore fm mix, blinding tunes on that one, a couple I haven't heard in years. Cheers for the latest woodman, I'll d/l & listen to tonight :) What I might do in the coming days is list all the mixes featured so far in one posting, much like the kiss fm thread for easier viewing, we'll see.. I have found a tape, quality up & down, which has on one side, 22odd mins of RawFM & the same with FriendsFM, the DJ on Friends fm is Bad boy J. It might not be a complete show of each but it's a shame to let the tape just gatther dust & not be heard!

I still have the very famous DJ Hype sets from Fantasy FM, including the one with the L.F.O. mix. I don't think anyone needs to ask which mix I mean. A long while back, langster referred to the above set, but never got around to uploading...does anyone have this, as I would be very interested in checking it out. Adam_Timeless wrote:
big thanks to everyone uploading sets to this post. feel like a kid in a sweet shop. don't think i have ever done this much downloading since I first got broadband a few years back. Really enjoyed the Pulse sets (esp Warlock), the Rush FM sets, Anton/ Bird Chillin sets out of the ones I've listened to so far. Can't wait to listen to the Friends, Climax and Centerforce sets.

These were probably the best pirates, also gotta mention Touchdown which was my fave and what I have heard of Innocense, Defection was good. Would love to hear more of those. Check out this links I came across for loads of oldskool pirate sets http://www.renegaderadio.co.uk...adsv2/downloads.html http://forum.breakbeat.co.uk/tm.aspx?m=1970601319 TEKNONUTTER wrote:

Yeah, he plays some blinding tunes in that set :) I think I have a couple more which haven't been uploaded, but the trouble is getting them converted in the first place. Also have lots more pirate shows 89-92, but some massive, quite obscure hard techno/hardcore techno & acid/industrial ones by DJ Ivan on Unity 88.4 FM from 92/93, which I need iding on some of them. I'll sort it out in a couple of weeks, sorry to be a pain :P woodman0776 wrote:

nah fraid not, there is a good set from Warlock on Pulse in Aug 92 where he plays an "Oldskool" set with lots of 91s. Well worth a look. And plenty of quality 92 sets from Defection, Format etc. If you have a good look through it theres lot of good 92-93 stuff if you don't like jungle.

different strokes for different folks. I love it all really up to about 94/5. But think the 89-93 was the best. Love the Euro sounds of 91. The Pulse Warlock set from Aug 92 is well worth a D/L as he plays a lot of older 91 records on it then goes into techno for the remainder of the set. I only really downloaded the 92 sets from that list. |
