Essential Mixes - Which Are Your Favourite?ardee wrote:
Everyone is bound to have at least one favourite Essential mix. In fact some of the best sets I've listened to (as opposed to actually being at the gig in person) have been essential mixes. I missed Garnier's set recently, but hopefully it'll be up for download somewhere.

There were dozens of record shops up and down the country selling those tracks so no credit need be given to an outlet that sold the music. Are Rub a Dub sponsoring you? In 92 Slam/Atlantis/Sub was still all about Koshino/Destroy, progressive house, Underworld and the odd Italian import. Pure it was not. You would NEVER have heard Stuart play a Dance Mania record before 1994. Sure, he might have played the 80’s house classics once in a while, but they were much more influenced by the Boy’s Own/Flying/Balearic/London/Manchester thing.

Rub a Dub was without a doubt the fuse to many people in Glasgow, including Stuart & Orde, getting into that new school of Chicago stuff and a lot of really underground techno records. I do however take back the Mark Burns bit – it was when he was working in 23rd Precinct in Glasgow and when he ran the store in Dundee. You can huff and puff and throw abuse as much as you like, but that particular Essential Mix was influenced by several factors in Glasgow and a few gust DJ sets like Weatherall’s (in 93). Slam have never been musical pioneers. crazyowen wrote:
