many web releases of Plusquam Records, Midijum Records and Crotus Records contain several tracks that were already released in previous years. but when browsing on beatport it appears as if they were all new tracks. so if you intend to buy web releases from these labels, it's advisable to have a look at discogs and check if you would buy freshly produced tracks or actually old tracks that pretend to be new. more detailed info here stub004 wrote:
What does it matter as long as they are good?

How could you buy tracks that you already had, anyway? That just proves that you're buying for the sake of collection, not listening pleasure. Also, it's not the labels pulling the wool over your eyes. Beatport's 'release dates' are just the date when THEY added it to their database, not when it was first made available to the public. If anything you should blame beatport. stub004 edited this message 4 months ago. myrath wrote:
well, i think it's quite misleading. those Progressive Killers compilations on Plusquam Records for example: i'm sure that some people bought them and thought they were getting fresh progressive. those are 'web only' releases, not available on CD, so the release dates are "official", not just beatport related.

i think beatport AND the labels are to blame here. of course it's not illegal, but it's actually bogus claim. stub004 wrote:
Good music is good music. It shouldn't matter what age it is, even if you're a DJ.

that is correct. but it's still bogus claim. let's stay on the example of the Progressive Killers compilations on Plusquam Records: I'm sure some people spotted it, thought "cool, new Plusquam!" and didn't know that some of the tracks are in fact a few years old. On Plusquam's website it says: "A new series by Plusquam respresenting high-quality progressive-trance of nowadays masters!" C'mon, no doupt that this is intentionally misleading.
