U.K. ACID HOUSE. What came first?

I'm not sure, but I believe this would be first.

Good mention. My copy was from Germany so I did not even realize the origin was U.K.

I know 808 State cut "Flow Coma" when A Guy Called Gerald was still working with them. Right around the time "Voodoo Ray" was recorded.

That was right when Todd Terry came out with Royal House which really places it around the beginning of 1988.

Nobody ever mentioned that one. But I would have to say there is prototype 303/808 sound emerging without a doubt. Thanks for that posting.

The only others I could think of from that era..???

There was no youtube of the instrumental. The vocals throw the track off into some pop/punk pish.

Chris and Cosey were well ahead of their time. Even before the term techno was being used to describe the music the did the 'Techno Primitiv' LP in 1984 http://www.discogs.com/Chris-C...rimitiv/master/11719

I never would doubt that. But not too much different then Yazoo or The Human League or even Frankie Goes To Hollywood in terms of application of the machines and what to do with them.

That Elemental 7 though? I mean that sounds to me like they had an 808 and a 303 and were the first ones to actually do something with the machines before ever hearing what they do. I could be wrong though, Klein & MBO came out in 1982.

I know it is not from the U.K. but if it was big in America, it had to make the rounds in the U.K.

That Klein & M.B.O record is great. I wish I had a copy. Good call on the Pete Shelley and Heaven 17 records too. Frankie I think you're right about Elemental 7. I think it kind of destroys the legend that Pierre was the first to (apparently accidently) discover that the 303 could be used not only as bass synthesizer for bands but have a lead role in a track... He gave it some real nice squelch action though!

I do believe that the Chicago guys actually were the first ones to hear the possibilities of what a 303 could do. But to be honest, those guys never would have connected the Acid to Acid.

I mean one was music, the other a drug. I know 808 State liked to experiment with both.

S25 toured the States in early 1985 with a sound that relied heavily on a 303, documented on From The Hip - In The Flesh: Live In America 1985, and had made (unreleased) 303-based tracks a year or so earlier…

Just 2 things look wrong with that, for 1 the title of thread is UK acid house and these appear to be German/USA and 2 this release says 1981 when the TB 303 was released in 1982.

I`ve only ever heard vocal tracks by them, did they do instrumentals? Personally i really like their Electro/Industrial sound i just don`t like the vocals.

LOL. I apologize for being a boring bastard and always referring to lyrics, but personally i can`t listen to a piece of music that features lyrics i can`t relate to. A bad lyric can really ruin a song. Far too many artists sing a vocal when they have nothing to say.

If anyones interested here`s a couple of examples of tracks where imo the artist has written a lyric that is intelligent.

The Superman single by PTV is the release that was the first to use the term and was followed up by Acid Tablets Volume One and Tekno Acid Beat. PTV were also responsible for a lot of the psychedelic imagery from their 1995 US hyperdelic tour - they drove around in a pink van with "Even Furthur" inspired by the Merry Pranksters and had flyers with "The rave is on" written on them - the first use of the term rave in relation to psychedelic dance gigs?

Musically, though, I'd argue that their first track that sounded like what Acid House became as 'Discopravity' from Mouth Of The Night.

Actually, quite different in the sense that a lot of the machines they used, they (along with Gen and Sleazy) had pioneered and built when in Throbbing Gristle - http://undergroundmusiclibrary...t-used-on-stage.html .

It was the epitome of what underground music was in New York in 1983. Then the Latin Rascals used a lot of bits from "Let Me Go" in their DJ mixes. Those "Cracking" parts in the dub mix. Remains a favorite.
