Darker prog

stub004 wrote:
Hi all,

I'm looking for some dark prog suggestions. I DO NOT mean dark-psy. I'm looking for progressive trance without the euphoric, happy edge, such as:

FREq - 'Strange Attractor'
Anton Chernikov presents. Crystal Verge - 'Nightmare'

Thanks in advance.

Another example is:

Antix - 'Forever Changing (Vibrasphere Remix)'

Try Zenon and Cosmic Conspiracy records.

yeah exactly... Sensient - Antifluoro is a masterpiece!
Zenon is the way to goo... I concider it to bee the most interresting progressive-label atm... still releasing quality, darker a bit twisted progressive.

Zenon just doesn't do it for me, unfortunately.

I find a lot of their stuff too minimal and also missing the chunkier basslines that labels such a Iboga seem to push. I really like that fuller sound.

Crotus records maybe?
Similar to Iboga is Iono music, Spintwist, some stuff from Synergetic

hmm could work... but a quite tricky question though...
But i don´t find Iono, Spintwist or Synergetic espacially dark...
Sure groovy... Some of the ZMA-stuff ? like Various - Battle Royal

However I really like some of the flow-stuff... A compilation I really like is: Various - Echoes Here we gets kind of a crossover between Progressive and Full-On... Psygressive ?

Or why not Echotek

Or get on the quite heavy stuff: Manibus - Escape or Opsis

And I surely recommend you to have a look on: Headstick Recordings

I hope I was to any help :D

Thanks Gizmex!

Synergetic is exactly the kind of stuff I am looking for, and I had never even heard of that label. Some of their stuff sounds a bit cheesy, but otherwise pretty good.

Iono I'm not hugely impressed with lately. They are putting out some good stuff, but then also some very generic material too. The 'Pathfinder' compilation was pretty boring I thought.

Iono's new VA - Generic Drift is rather dark.

Ironic title? the Prog genre is starting to run dry. Starting?!

Check out a few of my recorded sets:

The key is to ignore 90% of the standard/conventional prog-psy coming out these days. It's all rehashed nonsense; nothing new since Strange Attractors (2004)... but if you start to examine the borderlands of psytrance and techno you'll find plenty of really good psychedelic dance music coming out these days.

check out Bitmonx & DJ Fabio - Plugged. It has a strong, non cheesy sound.

other interesting labels are:

already mentioned Cosmic Conspiracy Records
Electric Power Pole Records
Bio-Sine Records

but those are maybe too similar to Zenon Records (which i love), even if their sound is harder.

another good and new album is Solar Spectrum - Planes Of Existence

Further examples would be Ticon - 'In The Dirt' and Nasa - 'Legolam', which are half full-on/half progressive but still have a more sinister edge.

Any more recommendations?
