Yeah, this morning.

Found it pretty cool to consider roots of electronic music being in things like members of Can tripping on acid and one saying to the other "drum monotonous" to a jazz drummer, and people wanting to create a new identity after a troubled past.

The documentary was very interesting, and I only really have Tago Mago and Man Machine so it was good to hear more about what Krautrock was, as I can only trace things back as far as Kraftwerk. This program filled in the period through the 1960's before that and gave it background - i.e. i can now understand more about how electronic music just suddenly appeared in Germany. I am interested to hear more, of course i've heard Klaus Schultze and Tangerine Dream, but I will continue to look up other artists I havent explored yet.

As discussed in the Synth pop thread, the BBC are racist BNP siding bastards who dont allow anyone who is not British (as in the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation) to watch things on iPlayer.

I apologise on behalf of the BBC who are probably just trying to limit a already over stretched service, but who are currently aggravating our european natives with documentaries on their music which they cant watch. :D.

Very interesting programme. I must admit that although Kraftwerk are a huge influence on me I hadn't really heard much if any material by the other bands, apart from Tangerine Dream. Some of it is too close to prog-rock/hippy dippy self-indulgence for my tastes but the music from Harmonia sounded excellent. Just did a search on YouTube and found this gem:

I will have to investigate some of the other bands too and see if I can find some more good stuff.

Like the comment on the YouTube video that Harmonia track has a real deft touch with pretty and uplifting melodies like '74-'75 era Kraftwerk. Will definitely have to investigate that Deluxe album if that track is typical.

it's a classic, all the tunes stand on their own tbh and are equally as good than immer weider, one or two i like perhaps even more (im thinking of gollum, one of my favourite racks of all time. proper lush)

seriously don't dismiss some for being 'hippy-dippy' seeming or something, there's a reason there's a distinction between this stuff and prog rock. there was german prog too, but the krauut things are a comletely different beast. some of the best stuff going.

Incidentally, what is this music called in Germany? 'Krautrock' was a derogatory term invented by British musos wasn't it?

Listening to Neu! - Negativland atm and it's quite good.

Did anyone read the bullshit fine print why this isn't available to view out of the UK? They're saying it's more expensive to view because we're too far away?! Are they for real? Why should it matter if a server is next door or 10,000 miles away? Sounds like a lame excuse.
