I don't think that's 100% true.. it would be silly to expect fame on discogs, but some people actually care, even if they don't leave a comment or something.. but I understand what you mean. I know it's hard to propagate, promote music without sounding like a spamming asshole, when you're unknown.... urbazon wrote:

I am not mean or anything, just 100% honest with you - IMHO this track is really boring... It's blank, it desperately needs something... I don't know, maybe that was the point? It's not zero, you know it ;) But it's still less than 10 people... :) doors wrote:

I make tracks in many genre and style, so I don't expect everyone to like all my stuff. What do you feel that it need more? I was going for something subtle and hypnotic.. I've been listening to alot of Ostgut Tonträger records lately Surt wrote:

I've been listening to alot of Ostgut Tonträger records lately I can see where you're trying to take it, but I think that it sounds kind of muddy, and many of the sounds lack definition, especially the snare. Also, it really doesn't develop that building energy and tension that a lot of the O.T. tracks do. Sorry to sound a bit negative, but just trying to give honest, constructive feedback. doors wrote:

Surtbut I think that it sounds kind of muddy, and many of the sounds lack definition, especially the snare. I sorta agree, I didn't do any mastering on it, it's recorded directly from the mixer, with no post-processing. I know jack shit about mastering, but I am working on it. I am not trying to give excuses, my only goal is to get better, which is why I am posting this here. It's hard to get constructive and subjective feedback from friends, either they are too nice or irrelevant. So I know here on discogs, people have various tastes and various skills, so any comments is helpful. This was an experiment, I am only trying to get better with what I have. It can be hard for me because I do not use a computer in my productions, I am not interested in downloading programs and making music with a mouse.. so I only use gear, but I am not some rich drug dealer or something, so I have to do with what I have.. Which I am fine with that, but sometimes it is frustrating to hit a wall because of hardware limitation.. but ah well I guess it's always a matter of pushing the machines to the limit.. anyway thanks everyone for taking the time to listen Barry_Crumbcheeks wrote:
In something like a very stripped back track i think it does matter what the gear is to the extent that those few sounds are what it gives it a lot of its character. Sometimes its good to see what the gear suggests rather than try and approximate it to a premeditated formula. Otherwise, make sure the sounds you are going to use have the force to convey what you want them to. or something.

What sort of hardware are you using to make your sounds? What are you recording on? As you pointed out, this could be quite a limitation if you can't afford a lot of high-end kit. for this track, I used: a Roland MC-505, a Clavia Micro Modular, and a Roland EF-303.

I know the culprit is the MC-505.. it can produce some pretty cool sounds, but I often I have problems having something clear with it. I wonder what effects\processing I could add to have something richer, clearer.. I like the MC-505, I like the way the sequencing work, and I can get creative pretty fast with it. Maybe I should consider upgrading to a MC-808.. |
